概要/Abstract

This paper describes the memo tool, `SmartWrite,' a pen-based memo environment that can be treated like paper and has a similar feel. Computers are now in common use in everyday tasks. However, paper notebooks and memo pads are still used for rapidly writing down ideas. To confer the benefits of the computer for memo writing, we adopted the following design principles in the development of the SmartWrite: (1) use of a page-like design; (2) obviate unnecessary operations; (3) long-term usability; (4) ease of browsing; (5) handwriting and keyboard input; (6) able to treat memos and photographs seamlessly. This paper presents the details of these policies, user interfaces, and functions of the SmartWrite.
